7/28 32 Putts,88, Old Fort Golf Course

Readiness –3 out of 10

Course Conditions – Typical early morning round at Indian Hills.

Fairways 10/14

GIR: 3/18

Putts: 32

Long Drive: 235

Daily Takeaway: Didn’t have my best stuff today. Drove the ball well and found the fairway most of the day, but my approach shots let me down — only 3 greens hit all round. Three penalty strokes didn’t help either, and with just 4 pars on the card, this one was a grind more than anything.Course Conditions – Indian Hills was closed for aeration for a couple days, so I played Old Fort instead — walked the whole course pushing a remote-controlled cart. Mid-90s before 10am with a heat index around 115, and the round took 4 hours.

Daily Takeaway: Questioned my life choices by the second hole. It was brutally hot, and while lining up a putt I was sweating hard enough that it was visibly dripping off my forehead onto the green. Didn’t have my best stuff — drove it fine but the approach shots let me down all day, and I burned through at least a gallon of water trying to keep up with the heat. Strava had me at 6.5 miles walked by the end. My legs started going by hole 15, and by 18 I told my playing partner, who was riding a cart, that I hoped I’d make it to my own car — I was spent before I got there. Cranked the AC once I got in and still spent close to 10 minutes loading up while standing on asphalt that had to be pushing 20 degrees hotter than the air. Checked my heart rate once I finally sat down: 137.

The remote-controlled cart was a $900 purchase back when I was walking 80% of my rounds as a nomad without a membership — barely used it the last 3 years since joining Indian Hills. But with the rack rate at $70 and Old Fort at $28 walking as a senior, cheap-bastard instincts won out. $28 for the round, though my body sent me a bill I hadn’t budgeted for.
