The Burn Bin

Why It Exists

This is my mental filing cabinet. The goal here is simple: once a round is completed, it is stripped of its emotional weight and documented. It is ‘burned’ from my active memory and filed away. By offloading these details here, I clear the noise from my mind so I can reset for the next grind. This bin serves as an honest, raw record for my own review and for anyone interested in the unfiltered reality of this journey.

    Readiness – 4 out of 10

Course Conditions – dry conditions, very hot, slight breeze

    Fairways 6/14

    GIR: 9/18

    Putts:31

    Putts/GIR: 1.8

    First Putt Distance:20′

    Putts Made Total Distance: 57′

Long Drive: 256 – Average with Driver 220

    Handicap: 7.3

Daily Takeway: Started out good, with a great drive down the middle on #1, and a perfect gap wedge right over the top of the flag. But then the scared little bitch returned in full force. I could not hit a short iron to save my life today. I played decent up until #7, with a shank off the tee. Then shanked an 5 iron on #8. Dead center of fairway on #9, from inside 100 yards, dead shank again. #10 sitting 80 out on 3, dead shank again. Monster drive on #11, 60 yards out, dead shank again, but recovered with a par. #13 playing about 120 yards, dead shank again. Went 4,3,3,4 on 14,15,16,17, and then bogeyed #18 for an 80. Decided to hit drive on #16, and it was dead center and chipped up close and snagged a birdie. Spent some time on the range after, but have somehow lost all confidence swinging a full or half wedge shot. # of putts increased over yesterday but so did the total distance of putts made. Sloppy 3 putt on #5 after hitting the green.

  • 6/28 29 Putts,80, Indian Hills

    Readiness – 5 out of 10

Course Conditions – dry conditions, slight breeze

    Fairways 8/14

    GIR: 5/18

    Putts:29

    Putts/GIR: 2.0

    First Putt Distance:9.4′

    Putt Made Distance: 41′

Long Drive: 256 – Average with Driver 212

    Handicap: 6.9

Daily Takeway: Sleep deprived from trip to Nash-Vegas last night. Driving range was also closed this morning. Drove the ball well today and scramble mode was off the charts. 29 total putts 10 lower than yesterday, but still equaled the same score of 80. Still playing like a scared little bitch on shots of 100-50 yards in. 50 yards and in, I one hand chip with great results. I only hit 5 of 18 green in regulation but first putt distance was under 10′ on average because of my one hand chipping strength. No three putts today, so that was a bonus. Need to find a comfort level on wedge shots and compress the ball at the end of the round to stop routinely dropping shots 16-18.

  • 6/27 39 Putts,80, Indian Hills

    Readiness – 8 out of 10

Course Conditions – dry conditions, slight breeze

    Fairways 8/14

    GIR: 14/18

    Putts:39

    Putts/GIR: 2.21

    First Putt Distance: 24.7′

    Putt Made Distance: 23′

Long Drive: 261 – Average with Driver 224

    Handicap: 6.9

Daily Takeway: Putting appears to be my weakest link. Played well tee to green, but 39 putts is horrible. Although I was a long way on the first putt on many holes today, I still missed several 3-9′ putts. I also has (3) 3, putts. I am going to start tracking actual distance of final putt on each hole, to measure my progress. Total distance of putts made today 23′ on 18 holes. I hit the driver well, had a couple penalty shots that kept me from a 70’s round, going for the green on #12 and shanked one on #16 and ended up with a triple.

  • 6/26 34 Putts,86, Indian Hills

    Readiness – 2 out of 10

Course Conditions – dry conditions, slight breeze

    Fairways 9/14

    GIR: 7/18

    Putts:34

    Putts/GIR: 2.42

    First Putt Distance: 21′

Long Drive: 240 – Average with Driver 207

    Handicap: 6.9

Daily Takeway: I was up way too early, and walked 3 miles before showing up at the course at 6:15. Decent practice, but after yesterdays career low, I was nervous about how I would play and it showed. I play scared almost all day, I had (3) 3 putts. and made the turn at +10, with 2 pars. I have several shanks on the front nine, mental focus, was not there and I was standing to close to the ball, and hit hozzle rockets. Recovered on the back, but all in all not a good effort out there today.

  • 6/25 31 Putts,73, Indian Hills

    Readiness – 8 out of 10

Course Conditions – morning dew, no wind

    Fairways 11/14

    GIR: 11/18

    Putts:31

    Putts/GIR: 1.9

    First Putt Distance: 17′

Long Drive: 247 – Average with Driver 214

    Handicap: 7.5

Daily Takeway: Played solo today and everything was clicking. No 3 putts, and (6) 1 putts. Made the turn at -2, gave a few back on #11, #12 which should have been easy pars. Flew the green on #11 with the approach and was short of the green as a result on the next hole. Scambled really well today and that started on #1, when my approach flew the green, but chipped on and sunk a 12′ putt. I was above the bunker on #5 and shipped to 2′. Bad drive on #10, but punched out, and hit a great 5 iron above the hole. Had birdie putt, settled for par. Bad drive on #16 with 4 hybrid, but saved a 5.

  • 6/24 32 Putts,81, Indian Hills

    Readiness – 4 out of 10

Course Conditions – morning dew, no winds, cooler temps

    Fairways 7/14

    GIR: 7/18

    Putts:32

    Putts/GIR: 2.0

    First Putt Distance: 21.5′

Long Drive: 226 – Average with Driver 191

    Handicap: 7.5

Daily Takeway: I was not feeling it today, after having the shanks yesterday, I was on guard all day. Struck the ball half way decent, a couple of bad drives though. Also a couple of 4 hybrids and 5 wood off the tee did not go as planned either. I continue to not compress the ball when I need to, coming up short several times on approaches. Although I only had (1) 3 putt, my first putt distance was an awful 29 feet on average. I turned that around on the back side first putt distance was 14′. I did miss several short putts for potential birdies, on #11 and #12.

  • 6/23 34 Putts,85, Indian Hills

    Readiness – 5 out of 10

Course Conditions – wet, light mist, 64 degrees and overcast

    Fairways 8/14

    GIR: 8/18

    Putts:34

    Putts/GIR: 2.0

    First Putt Distance: 25′

Long Drive: 223 – Average with Driver 200

    Handicap: 7.5

Daily Takeway: Definitely was not feeling it today. Started with a 3 putt on #2, shanked tee shot on #5. Rebounded with a 24′ birdie on #6, decent par on #7, 2 shanks on #8, another on #10. Drove green high on #12, chipped to 3′ for a birdie. Followed by a shank off the tee on #13. Decent drive on #14, hit a 184 yard 4 hybrid on the green and then three putted for bogey. Followed by a par on #15 with a 2 putt from 62 feet. Horrible 4 hybrid on #16, followed by 4 iron punch toward the green. A one handed chip to 5′ and par save. #17 hit a 210 yard 5 wood down the middle leaving 105 yards to the green. Came up short of the green in the bunker.

  • 6/21 33 Putts,76, Indian Hills

    Readiness – 6 out of 10

Course Conditions – morning dew, fog, but burned off early

    Fairways 7/13

    GIR: 10/18

    Putts:33

    Putts/GIR: 2.0

    First Putt Distance: 15′

Long Drive: 251 – Average with Driver 201

    Handicap: 7.5

Daily Takeway: The long game was good enough to go low today. The putter wasn’t. Despite two poor drives that should have cost me strokes, I scrambled for par both times. The one-handed chip to 3 feet on #4 and the 217-yard 5-wood into #6 were round-saving shots. The long game was good enough to go low today. The putter wasn’t. Ten greens and 33 putts tells me exactly where the next strokes are hiding.

  • 6/20 36 Putts,79, Indian Hills

    Readiness – 7 out of 10

Course Conditions – morning dew, burned off mid round

    Fairways 11/13

    GIR: 12/18

    Putts:36

    Putts/GIR: 2.1

    First Putt Distance: 21′

Long Drive: 242 – Average with Driver 219

    Handicap: 7.5

Daily Takeway: Salvaged a decent round with good play on the back. After making the turn at +6. Hit in the water on #7 with bad shot and then missed a short put for bogey. Drove the ball well all day including driving the green on #12 but then putting let me down, and three putted from 50′. Had (3) 3 putts that were all in 46-59 feet for the first putt. Plenty to work on but please with my recent play.

  • 6/19 35 Putts,79, Indian Hills

    Readiness – 7 out of 10

Course Conditions – morning dew, little or no wind and cooler

    Fairways 8/14

    GIR: 10/18

    Putts:35

    Putts/GIR: 2.1

    First Putt Distance: 20′

Long Drive: 242 – Average with Driver 204

    Handicap: 7.5

Daily Takeway: Putting still is hurting me. Had (4) 3 putts, but all were first putts over 40 feet. I missed 5 putts inside of 7′. I Had (5) one putts, which helped including a 12′ birdie on #18, which resulted in a 79. That was the first time I have ever even birdied the 18th.
